Great Value, Accurate and Easy to Use
I've quite a few tuners I've bought over the years. I've even still got my A440 tuning fork I used to used to tune my classicals. My other electronic tuners have always been a bit of a 'faff'. Electric guitar - mess about with cables. Acoustics - balance the tuner so it can 'hear' the guitar and make sure it's pretty quiet where you are. This little gadget is brilliant. Clip it on the headstock and away you go - doesn't matter if it's electric or acoustic. Using 'Guitar Mode' - it identifies the string being tuned and turns green when in tune. I've checked it against my other more expensive tuners and it's spot on. Chromatic, Guitar, Bass, Violin and Ukulele modes - everything you could want! And so cheap - what's not to like.
Excellent for a complete guitar beginner!
This device is brilliant for someone new to playing a guitar. My dad bought me a guitar when I was 12 years old and due to the Coronavirus lock down, 30 years later I thought I would bring it down from the loft and give it a go. I inserted the battery and it came on straight away. Used the clip to put it on the top end of the guitar but the first string (low E) was showing as G! I went into panic mode and went straight to youtube to find answers. To cut a long story short it turns out that you have to keep turning the 'guitar tuners' at the top till the electric tuner changes to the correct letter. This set me off in another panic as my guitar was so out of tune I thought I was gonna snap the strings when turning. Luckily I persevered and managed to re tune all 6 strings (whilst holding my breath). Its It's a lot smaller than I imagined, but I would never have been able to tune my guitar without it!
Not For Bass Guitar
This wee tuner is very small, but the screen is nice and sharp and the notes appear crisp and black against the backlit display. The tuner has several modes, but I was only using it with electric guitar and bass. There is a mode for guitar, which worked well. But chromatic seems to work just as well, and might be more useful if you are using alternative tunings. In bass mode the tuner did well with the top two strings, but it struggled with the A and E strings. It did work better in chromatic mode, but even that couldn't catch the low B. There's a single button to toggle on and off (both long presses) and swap between modes (single short press), and the overall construction is great. The screen is plastic, but not flimsy, and the securing clip has plenty of grip. As well as a graphical pitch indicator the whole screen changes colour (from blue to green) to show when pitch is reached. Cheap, reasonable quality and functional, but bass players should look elsewhere.

I bought this mainly for the price as it was just a back-up one I needed for the guitar I keep in the van to practice at lunch. It's perfect. The backlight shines green when it's in tune which is a nice touch and it's really easy to use. Had it ages, used daily, and the battery still going strong which I'm very happy with. This is chromatic which means you don't have to select the note you want, you just hit the string and adjust your instrument to the note you want; perfect for guitar if you're down-tuning the bass string to Drop D. Keep it on Chromo and you never have to change the setting, just turn it on and tune each string. 1 button only - hold down to turn on and hold down again to turn off. Press button once and it changes from Chromatic / Guitar / Bass / Ukulele / Violin / BJ which i presume is Banjo / then F / Bb / Eb. When you turn it off it stays on the last selected option you used so if you only use 1 option you never have to find it, it's always there waiting when you turn it back on. It works on vibrations so you don't need a mic, just clip it onto the instrument and it'll pick up the tone from vibration alone. Perfect for loud gigs as people could be screaming and shouting but this will not be affected by it at all.
Compact, effective and good value.
Great little tuner, very easy to use, very compact and smaller than I expected. Strong clip with good padding fits securely on to small headstocks (eg my PRS). The colour changing display and “sweep” effect of the pointer makes it very easy to tune accurately. Only used it a few times but I already prefer it to my other two clip on tuners. At less than £6 it’s a bargain.
The perfect compliment to a pitch pipe.
If you seek to tune ANY stringed instrument - whether it be a piano, double bass, bass guitar, cello, guitar, viola, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, or violin - then used with a PITCH PIPE so that you can HEAR the note of the open string you wish to tune on your stringed instrument of choice - this is the PERFECT tuning aid for YOU. The aid detects when Western 'concert pitch' of each note is reached so you can be confident that YOUR instrument will be accurately pitched to 'fixed-pitched' instruments such as timpani, woodwind, reeds, and brass - and it also enables players of brass instruments to accurately adjust the length of their MOUTHPIECES to accurately pitch their instruments so as to achieve a 'tight' harmonious sound. Operation is really simple – all you have to do is: 1. Turn the battery cover clockwise to open the battery compartment 2. Insert the battery the right way up 3. Replace the cover 4. Press the button for two seconds to switch on the device 5. Press the button to select the INSTRUMENT you wish to tune 6. Clip the instrument onto the head of your instrument 7. Use your pitch pipe to hear the desired note of the string you are tuning 8. As you get close to the required note the display will turn BLUE and display the NAME of the note you are ‘aiming’ for – with a central ‘datum mark to indicate when the string is ‘on pitch’. 9. You will also see indicators on either side of the datum mark to indicate whether the note you seek is sharp or flat so that you know which way to turn the tuning peg to tune the note. 10. When the note is precisely ‘on pitch’ (A = 440 Hz) the screen will turn GREEN. This is particularly important for FRETTED instruments because the frets are spaced to precisely sound the correct note ONLY when the instrument is properly tuned and the INTONATION is accurately set. If the string is NOT precisely tuned the instrument will sound dull and lifeless. 11. Press the button for two seconds to turn off the tuning aid. The aid will ‘remember’ the instrument you selected to tune for next time. You can also use the tuning aid to accurately tune drum kits as well as accurately tune the vellums on banjos and banjoleles to achieve a solid wall of perfectly pitched ensembles such as rock bands, jazz quartets, string quartets, etc. Another great feature is that the INTONATION of fretted instruments can be accurately set by 'pitching the string using the pitch-pipe, and then 'pulling' the second harmonic and comparing the said note with the note sounded at the 12th fret and then adjust the bridge of the instrument to achieve spot-on note intonation right across the fretboard. And the best bit is that the pitch pipe and tuning aid is totally PORTABLE so all 'variable-pitch' instruments can be accurately tuned 'on the go' when gigging - especially useful when 'settling' instruments that are exposed to extreme temperatures such as bringing instruments from a cold environment into a warm venue. Five stars

Great accuracy and speed of tuning from a clip on tuner. This new version Snark is excellent.
I have several of the earlier versions of the Snark, having been a fan since their inception. This new version is a much brighter and clearer screen than previous ones and works faster too. The hz button works fine and the reading is clear although relatively small on the main screen. Like the Peterson tuners the hz display is about getting very fine tuning, however fans of the strobe tuning on those won’t have the same visual cues. The Snark is good enough to get my Classicals and Electrics easily and quickly in tune. The instructions do say do not put it on ANY Gibson guitar and nitrocellulose finishes, the previous reviewer was right about that. Older versions of the Snark had similar warnings but not about Gibson specifically. I did notice some minor pressure marks on two French polished guitars but I did leave the old Snark tuner in situ for long periods and the marks were easily polished out. I had no issues on Ibanez guitars at all. This new tuner will sit on a Cordoba dolce headstock most of the time and so far no marks but it’s only been on a couple of days. I didn’t know whether the Gibson thing might have been a bit of a poke at Gibson - The Gibson’s I have owned and played weren’t that great with intonation etc.. The odd pressure marks came off easily with Mr.Sheen (natural) and microfibre cloth. For the cost of around £20.00 this is the best value clip on tuner there is. An update in Nov 2020. Still the best and have come done to £14.99. I now have a third and they function perfectly and have NO issues with marks on the headstocks other than my comments in 2018.
Works well, takes a little while to get the hang of it.
Such a huge improvement on using the old “pitch pipes” method of tuning my guitar! I could never get the hang of that and always needed a friend to tune for me, as I don’t have the ear to do it. This Snark digital tuner is fantastic though. Simply clip the small, light weight gadget on top end of guitar and twizzle it round (ball joint) to view the readout. It took me a little while to get the hang of tuning gently to get within the lines. I also realised that new strings need tuning more often. Once I got the hang of it, then I found it so easy to use. I’m using it on a steel string acoustic guitar. I’d highly recommend this to anyone who can play a guitar but doesn’t have the natural ear to tune by pitch.
It's a Snark so it's good
Snark tuners are simply great, and this new model is no exception. There is only one small thing which I DON'T LIKE about this tuner. It just happens to be the same on, as far as I know, on all Snark tuners. That is the ON/OFF switch. where it is placed, it is very prone to be accidentally switched on by the unit being pressed up against another object. This has happened to me several times when I have put it away in a gig bag with other items. Result a flat battery. This in my opinion could be easily solved by using a slidable on/off switch and not a push button type. So come on Snark, make your product even better and change the on/off switch type.
