This is a decent, good size puzzle board. We only do a maximum of 1,000 piece jigsaws but I opted for this 1,500 piece board because Amazon reviewers said that the 1,000 piece boards often weren't big enough to accommodate all makes of 1,000 piece puzzles. This board is huge and a little difficult to get comfortable with because of its size. It will easily take any 1,000 piece jigsaw with room to spare but is awkward when trying to use it in a tight space or on your lap. It is well made and has 2 detachable panels to hold the pieces not in position. It folds up neatly and can be slid into a thin space to hide it away. I am pleased with this board, the size is to be accepted because we could always do smaller puzzles. The pieces stick well to the velvet like surface. For a regular puzzler I can thoroughly recommend the Portapuzzle 1500.
Excellent for storing unfinished jigsaws out of the way
Just the right size for up to 1500 piece jigsaws. Has two removable pads which a) Keep the jigsaw in place when tidied away and b) Allow you to spread all the interesting pieces out on a place other than the carpet. It's great for the dining table (has no hard / sharp components) and the floor although the velco straps do pick up carpet fluff etc. Wish I'd have bougt one of these years ago, I've used it with every jigsaw we've put together since.
I have tried various ways of storing unfinished puzzles because of wife moaning about dining room, I have used roll up puzzle mat but you still have to use sorting trays for the other pieces, if the puzzle is large the roll can be unstable and drop pieces so purchased this. I have rated five stars for ease of use, good price, and the fact it has the inbuilt sorting trays that combine the same size of the mat, the puzzle mat is well made from sturdy materials and when closed can be stored behind a wardrobe or under the bed or up against the wall. I have done this with a 1000 piece puzzle with no issues see photo 9 and also holding pieces for a new puzzle on the sorting trays.

Just what I had hoped for.
I have decided to write this product review because there seems to be a lot of confusion over the size of these jigsaw boards. I am now wondering if the reason for this could be that there is more than one manufacturer and therefore they do vary in size. I wanted a board to hold a 1000 piece jigsaw, and in particular a collection of Ravensburger jigsaws that measure 70cmx 50cm. It seems that the actual size of the pieces of jigsaws vary, and so some 1000 piece puzzles end up slightly smaller than that. Also the price of these boards appears to vary considerably, ranging from around £10 to mid twenties and beyond. I decided not to go for the cheapest, and this one cost £18.99. So for future reference, the size of the inner board measures 79 cm x 54 cm, so my 70x50 jigsaws will certainly fit on it. It appears to be very well made, and the manufacturer is Jaques of London. If you are looking for a board that will take the slightly larger 1000 piece jigsaw I can recommend this one.
A classy, well made and impressive jigsaw board
I don’t know what jigsaw the lady in Amazon’s photo is doing but the size of the pieces shown gives completely the wrong impression of this jigsaw board. It easily holds a 1000-piece puzzle (around 48x68cm) - see photo - and the separate trays provide lots of space on which to work. (Although I also used a tea-tray as there is so much sorting to do. You can use the side flaps but then it’s not portable.) It is nicely made and detailed (it looks hand-crafted) and very good to work on. Puzzles can easily be moved from room to room. The board itself is large (58x81cm excluding side flaps; length with flaps is around 170cm). One observation: it is designed for puzzles in landscape format with the flaps at the side. For portrait format puzzles one of the flaps has to be folded down in front of you. (And all my puzzles are portrait style.)
A super product and well-made puzzle board.
I had been looking at puzzle boards for some time now and was delighted to see Jaques of London had brought one out due to the craftsmanship that goes with one of their products. Hence my reason for choosing their board over another much more popular brand; reviews of the other leading brand had noted issues with a slight lift in the middle of the board. Thus far, l have not been disappointed in any way and love the quality and feel of my new board. A great purchase.

I bought the roller mat and pretty much wasted the tenner as my cat claimed it for her bed, it was useless as a mat anyway. So i stumped up 20 quid for this and I am over the moon with the purchase! Velcro fasteners are very strong. As it lies flat there are 2 removable mats which allowed me to build seperate pieces of the jigsaw and then fit them into the middle section easily. Have recommended to a friend already. Spend the 20 quid, you will not be disappointed!
Great to work on
Very sturdy, and it holds the puzzle well, I like that the 2 mats on side can hold pieces then place them on the centre board to put away. ( in my pic, i have all the pieces on the boards, so no need for any in the box and can see them all clearly 🙂 It is secured well will velcro when closed, and the flaps top & bottom can be tucked underneath whilst working on the puzzle when open, I am doing a 1000 piece puzzle and there is still room round the centre board edge also, The material is nice and soft and light beige, so easy to see your pieces, on either the centre or side boards. Overall very happy with it 🙂
Fantastic overall, with one minor issue...
My first purchase was one of those felt mats with a large cardboard tube, designed to let you roll up the partially complete jigsaw and come back to it later. I returned it for a full refund. Having managed to put together around a quarter of a 1,000 piece puzzle, I needed the space for a while on my coffee table. As I rolled up the jigsaw (carefully!), I could see the pieces moving and coming apart. With only around 200-250 pieces in place, it still took me 30 minutes to repair the mess the cardboard roll had made of the puzzle. I gave up and ordered this Portapuzzle case instead after reading the reviews. The puzzle I have been doing is a standard 70cm x 50cm and consists of 1,000 pieces. This version of the Portapuzzle is designed for puzzles up to 1,000 pieces and they do fit perfectly, with a few centimetres around the edge to spare. This thing is huge when opened fully with two connected flaps either side of the main, internal mat and two extra mats which are independent of it all. You have loads of space to assemble the puzzle and place interesting pieces from the box around the place while you find out where to put them. It all fastens really securely with long velcro strips and holds the jigsaw in place well. I slide mine under the coffee table, but you could store it vertically too. I did test this briefly and had no issues with pieces moving. Although, I'm not convinced they would stay in place if you had it stood vertically and knocked it. The whole of the inside is a pale beige, soft felt material and the pieces stay in place nicely. As the background is so pale, it makes looking at the pieces much easier on the eyes than the awful green of the felt mat that came with the roll. You could conceivably have this on your knee while sat on the sofa to do a puzzle as the whole thing is quite rigid and stable. My only criticism, and it is quite an annoyance, is the ridge down the middle. I noticed one or two others have mentioned this too. From the top to the bottom of the main, central mat inside the case is a slight ridge where the felt material doesn't sit flush with the underlying cushioning. This means that puzzle pieces lift in a line all the way down the very centre of the puzzle (assuming it's a large 1,000 piece jigsaw). Is it a dealbreaker? No, because you can kind of push it down and it doesn't cause the pieces to move out of place. However, it does mean they lift and you can't ignore it. How annoying this will depend on your patience levels 🙂 Is the Portapuzzle worth the £20 I paid? I'd say definitely, yes. It's easy to work with, perfect for storing partial puzzles and doesn't ruin them when you want to revisit. I only knocked off one star in this review because of the ridge. If they sorted that with a design tweak, I would happily award five stars.
