Good Jigsaw, but the dust blower could be better
I like this jigsaw, I have been a Bosch jigsaw addict for some 30 years and they took a massive hammering, for 10 years being used nearly exclusively for cutting up metal acoustic panels. This Makita tool will have an easier life, being used almost solely for woodwork, The directional stability is is first class, and it will be interesting to see how use affects it, as the Bosch ones always needed regular guide and bearing changes to maintain accuracy. The quality of construction is well up to the usual Makita standard, ie first class. The work light is great. Whether you like speed controls on the trigger or with a preset as on most Bosch's is a matter of preference; If you do a lot of slow speed work, the preset is much superior as the speed is easier to control, I do find myself depressing the trigger and increasing the speed, when a slower speed would produce a better cut. My only real criticism is that the dust blower is not very effective. It's OK on thin material but when you get to say 22mm ply it really can't keep up with the dust produced. There is an extract tube to go with it but having a vacuum attached does nothing for its maneuverability at all. The base plate is very strong, much better than the sheet steel ones on the Bosch professional range. It is also well balanced, which was a pleasant surprise as I thought the battery weight would throw it off. I've not had much cause to use it continuously so I can't really comment on battery life, my guess would be that if you plan on using it a lot day in day out a corded version will be better, unless you have a lot of batteries! It does however save you lugging a 110V tranny around if you're on site.
Good saw just purchased my third
Iv just bought my 3rd one I started using these in 2015. This has heavy daily use and last me 2 1/2 years Works well and as expected easy to use and durable hence Iv returned and bought more The downsides to the tool are that the screws that hold the baseplate together can work loose with vibration so need to keep tightening and sometimes loose them also the blade release catch can feel a bit flimsy but I haven’t broken one yet some times the screw works loose and needs tightening. My last saw broke at the base I noticed the base gradually bowed and finally snapped clean off over a period of time. Although the about may not inspire too much confidence in the tool, rest assured that it is a very good sturdy saw and is up to any job it has a good weight to it and stays accurate when cutting although if you try to cut something thick and hard say 6x2 through a not it can cause the blade to slide over the guide wheels thigh can Bend the cut slightly other than that but this would be expected from other branded saws too
Powerful and precise. A quality Makita tool.
Excellent saw. Easily cuts through 4cm soft wood. Haven't tried hard wood yet but expect the same. Feels nice in the hand. The LED light to illuminate the saw line is a nice addition. The dust extraction is a bit small (19mm inner /21mm outer diameter) and I needed duct tape to hook it up to my shop vac, but worked efficiently. Not too much vibration either. Impressed with how well the saw blade tracked - it remained perpendicular to the top of the material, even when cutting thicker pieces. I went for this (older) model due to some negative comments on usability of the latest Makita brushless jig saw and I think it was the right choice. A joy to use and highly recommended.

Good piece of kit
I think there's been a lot of adverts showing off the Ryobi one range and it legitimately is handy to have all these tools that only use one lot of batteries, having said that I still like to have more than one just in case one runs out. Especially on some of the tools, needless to say the more you use it the quicker battery runs out so you need two charged ready for big jobs ideally...unless you spread the work over a couple of days. The tool itself is good and comes with a couple of blades ( i bought extra but have predominately used the ones in the box). Both the unit and the blades seem of good quality and i think it'll have good longevity to them. The saw has multiple speed settings dependant on the material and its quite easily to switch this up or down. I'd say all in all its quite a decent piece of kit.
Great!
Bloody brilliant. First time diyer here and needed something to cut a few boards down to size. It was a toss up between a circular saw and a jigsaw and I'd heard horror stories of jigsaws and the wiggly wavy lines they make and the rough cuts but this little thing, rocks. I bought a 5AH battery as a separate item to go with it and the thing made very short work of double melamine coated 18mm chipboard including a short length of the same chipboard along with the underlying 18mm compressed bamboo top of my workmate after a bit of a clamping mishap. Set to pendulum level 3, squeeze the trigger, engage the workpiece and slow... The LED light lit my pencil lines just great, and while the blower feature is a bit weedy, it worked enough to let me follow my marks. So the cons... Well the biggest one is that this is the older model. A fixed pressed steel base, that allows you to do mitre cuts but requires you to use an Allen key that requires a knight of Camelot to release it from the on-tool storage, only one who is true of heart may use the key, or someone with the strength of a professional tug of war team, that thing just does not want to budge if it's inserted in there. It would be nice if Ryobi actually wrote the year or model variation/version number in the description of the item. So if you want brushless, height adjustable/bladesaver, and toolless angles... Buy the £130ish one. Otherwise this one is basic but does the job just great.
Cordless Delight
I’m at an age when I remember when power tools were something to be held in awe by starry eyed DIY’ers back in the 1970’s when I was a child. One advert has stuck in my mind since then which, was the Black and Decker advert for a jigsaw that is used to replace practically every tool available. Of course, this is nonsense as a jigsaw is a useful but limited device – and a perfect item for cordless use. First off let’s be clear here that a jigsaw does not negate the need for other cutting tools because frankly they are hopeless if you are trying to cut a straight line even with an edge to run against. If you are cutting thick materials, then you had better prepare yourself for a lot of hand planning afterwards because the cut will not be vertical. Those jigsaw blades bend and deform like a blade of grass in thick boards. But, every now and again you need to cut a curve or an odd shaped hole when creating your Grand Design and for that purpose a jigsaw is king. Even better one that does not have a cord to get in the way and just make life miserable. And the lack of a cord really works for this Ryobi tool because the way a jigsaw works means you don’t need a massive amount of torque which, is dependent upon voltage. Thus the 18V One+ battery – the 5AH one I used – is easily hefty enough for most of a day’s work using the jigsaw. That lack of power cord is such a wonderful thing because it makes this tool ten times more versatile. The actual tool is well made from high quality materials. I say that being an owner of Ryobi tools for ten years over which, I’ve noticed a gentle increase in quality, range and target audience. When I bought my first Ryobi tool it was super cheap and cheerful and aimed just above the bargain bin level. Now? It’s easily the match of decent mid-range stuff from the likes of Bosch and DeWalt. The plastics used are high end glass reinforced stuff and the manufacture is very good giving you a robust tool that will last quite a bit of abuse. I know. I’ve been beating mine to death for ten years on a renovation project and my original hard shiny plastic Ryobi drills are still working perfectly despite having been dropped from the roof on more than one occasion. And there is probably a reason for the increase in quality – and price… Ryobi is made by Techtronic Industries of Hong Kong who also own Milwaukee, AEG, Hoover and quite a few other higher end brands. No one is telling me that in the same factory they are making tools with entirely different components. From what I can see and feel, there is little to differentiate between Ryobi and Milwaukee apart from the eye searing yellow. The plus side of the Early Learning Centre colour of the tool is that it’s easy to find… Best of all the batteries. They are big and bulky no doubt about it when you get the higher amp versions. But, they last well. I have one battery that despite being charged routinely for over ten years is still working well. In use they last just as long as Makita ones of similar AHr rating when I compare to my son’s tools who has his own business as an electrician. In hand this jigsaw feels strong and has a bit of weight when a battery is fitted. This is a ‘Good Thing’ as it helps dampen out the vibrations and makes cutting easier. There are four settings for the blade cutting – which simply boil down to how much the blade swings back and forth. There are little pictograms showing you which to choose but it’s not rocket science. The softer materials work well with the blade vibrating back and forth but as you get into the harder stuff like oak and then metals you simply dial that back or stop it. The blades fit without requiring any tools which, to be fair most are today. Still, it's nice to not have to worry about having the correct screwdriver with you. Overall this is a great tool for the money if you have already bought into the Ryobi One+ battery system. It works well, is strong and cuts decently for a jigsaw without the aggro of a power cord.

Best tool I own. Amazing low cost jigsaw.
My step dad bought me a MacAllister jigsaw for Xmas, I returned it and bought this bad boy instead. Best decision I've made all year. It's comfortable. It's powerful. It's versatile... Watching videos on YouTube for it and am amazed. Can cut directly into the middle of wood, creating a clean hole from the middle, without need to pre-drill a hole. Stunning. The rotary action on the blade is amazing for fast cuts. The blower is great for dispersing dust as you cut, or turn off if you have a hoover attached. The control action is fantastic, full analogue control of the speed of the motor. Genuinely love it. Best purchase I've made for a while
Cannot go wrong with Bosch.
I have been using Bosch power tools for seventeen years and you cannot go wrong with them. This is a fantastic little jigsaw but do not let that put you off or think that it is in any way underpowered. This is a powerful little bit of kit and does exactly what it says it will. It's not noisy at all and is very easy to handle, comes in its own case which is a real perk for storage. Be careful to read the description in terms of how much it is able to cut however. You are limited on the thickness of what materials it can get through. In my experience for general DIY around the house this is all that you will need.
Powerful and lightweight
Super machine. I’m an older lady and love that this is both powerful and yet light enough for me to safely handle without getting overly tired. Speed increases or decreases with a finger trigger, kind of like a petrol chainsaw. So the speed is easy to control. The instructions aren’t great - I had to post a question online to understand how to change the blade. But it was quickly answered. I also love the Bosch cases. They last for years and make storage and transport simple and safe. Another excellent Bosch product, and really affordable.
