Lovely smooth Irish Whiskey
We haven't had Jameson Whiskey for quite a few years as we have tended to stick with Scottish brands, both blended and single malt. Purchased a bottle of the Black Barrel during the recent Prime day event and we're really pleased! It is a lovely smooth whiskey, with a slightly sweet vanilla taste, personally I think it is much better than the vast majority of Scottish whisky brands, have now realised what we have been missing out on and so it is now going to be a regular buy.
perfection, very mellow slightly burnt
My favorite whiskey, smooth full bodied rounded flavor. Slightly burnt taste full bodied very rounded off more so than Jason regular it does not have the slight sharpness and aftertaste but instead replaces it with the rounded of burnt taste, With Jameson, I would compare it to the difference between a good solo musician and a band you can taste a single malt and it tastes distinct and often good, but with Jameson and possibly other blended whiskey you get the full band a rounded off flavoured with one flavour standing out from the rest with this black barrel that distinct one that stands out from the rest is mellow slightly burnt taste black barrel also has other flavours close to it making it overall very rounded off and smooth, whereas Jameson regular also has a full set of flavours but its outstanding one is less subtle more high energy more like Glenmorangie with Jameson regular it's much less subtle and stuck out significantly from the other flavours. it's good to have a few whiskeys and whisky's but if I could only have one forever it would be Jameson black barrel.
Beautiful dram
If you are a whisky lover like me then you will really want to take advantage of this small batch whisky release from jamesons. I typically drink single malt whisky however I have always enjoyed jamesons as an every day drinkable dram. What can you expect from this tipple? Well it is slightly different from normal jamesons as it is a combination of grain whisky and standard pot still distilled whisky. The results are really quite surprising, beautiful notes of vanilla and toffee with a unique cereal note and that classic jamesons oaky finish. It is silky smooth and although different tasting notes to your standard jamesons it retains those classic characteristics we all know and love from the standard bottling. I got this whisky at £25 and am really pleased with it, definitely worth a try.

Wow, just wow!
So, just stick this disclaimer out there; my whiskey knowledge is based entirely on how it smells and how it tastes to me. I have no training nor expertise whatsoever. If like me you like smooth but full bodied whiskey then look no further. This stuff is wonderful. It smells incredible but the taste, my god. It's divine. I normally drink original Jameson's whiskey and love the stuff, this is a whole other level. There's no burn whatsoever, no peat or smokiness, there's no sharpness or bitter after taste. It's simply smooth, full bodied in the mouth and tastes fantastic. Don't know what else I can add. Lovely stuff.
The water of life
For many years, despite being Irish myself, I would have loudly proclaimed the superiority of Scotch whisky over Irish whiskey, citing comparisons like the rough reek of Bushmills vs the smooth caramel of Ballantines. In recent years, the distillery at Midleton, Co. Cork has upped its game tremendously and has been putting out high-quality bottlings like Caskmates and Black Barrel in the crowded sub-£30 market. This, however, is on a totally different level. Finally, I understand whiskey's appeal: the marriage of ghostly, delicate smoothness, utterly bereft of burn, with full-bodied nutty treacley richness is a very addictive combination. The unmalted grain used in the mash imparts a buttery note, and the finish in sherry casks gives those trademark late-hitting cocoa undertones that make this a very fine dram indeed. This is one of the finest drops I've ever tried, but buyer beware: it can lay waste to your wallet, being extremely moreish, and not too cheap even on offer! Well worth it though, I recommend this without reservation to all interested in the water of life, from neophytes to hardened fanatics.
The best irish whiskey, hands down
If I had to pick any whisk(e)y in the world that I could only ever buy again, this would be it. It is without doubt the best I've tasted. It's a full bodied pot still with a hard to describe thick creamy taste that lasts for ages. At 40%, there's zero alcohol burn and goes down incredibly easy. Greenspot is one which people compare this to, but I find them very different. Greenspot has a more green apple note than this. If you haven't tried Redbreast 12, do yourself a favor and get yourself a bottle. I always keep a new one hidden away for when the open one runs dry!

Smooth and inexpensive
During this lockdown I purchased another well known Irish Whiskey brand from the local Co-op at £25 per bottle! I decided to try Amazon and came across Tullamore at £16 for the same size bottle. I was pleasantly surprised to find Tullamore really smooth, smoother than the leading brand. It is slightly sweeter and not as spicy but is very easy to drink. I don’t use mixer, water or anything that shouldn’t be in there. Very rarely I will add a single ice cube to whiskey...and it has to be poor whiskey for me to do that. Tullamore is an excellent blend you can drink mixer free.
So far ...
I've tried three Irish whiskeys from Amazon of late. This one has been one of three in particular that I wanted to try, picking them up when on offer. Having recently tried Paddy's and Bushmills, I was left with Tullamore D.E.W. As with my other reviews, I have to reiterate that I am no expert. I try and if it's any good, I'll get it again. Simple. Tullamore D.E.W is - anticlimactically - pretty good too. I know, shock-horror. I will say that, of the three, Tullamore has a little more of a kick to it. In fact, in terms of smoothness, they pretty much follow in order: Paddy's, Bushmills, Tullamore. But this is not to say that this whiskey is unpleasant; not by a long shot. I'm pretty biased when it comes to Irish whiskey. Although I haven't tried it yet with Tullamore, I'd say that this whiskey - of the three - that would most benefit from being mixed; either with lemonade, Ginger Ale or Ginger Wine. Even a dash would probably take some of the fire out. Still; a good, solid whiskey for the price (as of writing £16), and still recommended.
Scotch snobs will turn their noses up
I've had far more expensive from around the world, spending £150 a month on whiskies, and as a pleasant glugger Tullamore Dew is really nice. Easy flavour and clean. For well under £20 a bottle at the right time you can have a light but flavoured drink that doesn't taste like it was made in a shed, which some expensive ones do to me. I've been sinking this on and off for 30 years and while I wouldn't say it is my go to bottle i'd be more than pleased if someone gave me a glass, or bottle of it. Don't be a money snob and give it a go. A lot gets missed because people think aged, Scotlands own or high price has to be better.
